Mamie, there are so many things I'll remember about this year's Girlfriends' Gathering! One of the most memorable was turning into DeSoto and seeing a torrent of women in vibrant finery rush toward the community center doors and into the waiting arms of nattily attired escorts. All their faces were radiant with anticipation for the delicious, exclusive feast of fellowship you had prepared for them.
Also memorable was the rehearsal at Joan's. It was chaotic at moments, and few times you had to remind us YOU were the conductor . Still, the collaboration was wonderful, and I especially appreciated your encouragement.
When I shared with you my frustration about not being able to get my lines to flow, you seemed puzzled and told me they were my lines because you could hear me saying them. That stunned me.
Thank you, Mamie, for allowing me to see myself through your creative eyes! You see all of us through the eyes of a creator. We are so very different, yet you have brought us all together...a human palate. Dee

I look forward to your birthday celebration every year as a way to celebrate you and all the amazing women. And, I look forward to celebrating your birthday so that I can let my ’fro loose. The cool thing is that you invite us to be authentic, to celebrate ourselves, and to lift up each other. Thank you. I had soooooo much fun! It’s a night when I can dance and shout and laugh and cry and not worry about being judged for doing any of it. And if there is judgment, the affirming atmosphere you have set just quickly absorbs it and magically reminds that judgment attitude that it is there to have fun. Thanks, Mamie, for orchestrating such an unforgettable event. It was elegant and charming. Everyone was in awe. Robyn Reese said to me, “This is my first time attending since moving back to Pensacola. I have never experienced anything like this.” I can’t wait to see how you are going to top it when you reach 80. Although I could not stay until the end . . ., it was quite enjoyable. The food and fellowship were outstanding.
